Teaching Tagalog to Your Kids While Living in Another Country
I firmly believe that passing on the Tagalog language (both the vernacular and the more poetic written), literature, history, and culture is very important. If you are like me and are also committed to teaching your child(ren) your native language, and it is especially more difficult when living in another country, here are other tips (from my experience).

My Thriller Reads This Summer of 2023
Thriller novels (and movies) have always been my go-to genre. From Sherlock Holmes and the manga (and anime) Detective Conan when I was a kid, to a wider variety of authors today, I have always enjoyed great mysteries. In fact, I feel like it takes so much more to surprise me, as I tend to anticipate plot twists so often, I have sometimes found reading fiction to be boring. The only reason I have gone back to fiction was because I have learned to enjoy the other components of a novel: for example, the literary style and characterization. Here is a quick rundown of some of the books I've read…

Easy Yummy Caldereta for Busy People
Caldereta is a Filipino stew, made with your choice of meat (I use beef here) and commonly with carrots, potatoes, and peas (I also add mushrooms). New Undated Daily Planner with Weekly Overview – FREE
When I simply have too many things to do and am overwhelmed, I tend to shut down and simply try to wing it from day to day. I barely check the monthly page of my planner for things I had scheduled and mapped out for that month. I don't even look at my weekly vertical layout, list of things to do, freezer inventory, or meal plan. I just let it be. This, however, resulted in me being less productive. Hence a new planner layout!

5 Notetaking Styles I Use (Photos Included)
In this post, I will briefly talk about the notetaking styles I use and show examples. Note (ha, pun intended) that I am in medicine, specifically in pathology residency. We study materials that are heavy in text details (hello, molecular markers) but that are also picture-heavy (all those gross and microscopic images of disease entities!). The styles depend on the reference text, primarily, and the amount of time I have.

Air Canada and the Car Seat Debacle
I am writing this as a public service announcement (a life pro tip) to all parents who fly with them. Please note that even if your car seat is Transport Canada-approved, you may not be able to use it on the seat that you purchased for your child, depending on the competence of the staff on board. They tell you so many different rules and the reasons for these rules, they can’t all be true. And even if you follow the rules on their website, they will try to gaslight you and tell you that it's your fault it doesn't fit, so the car seat will either have to go…

9 Best Notetaking Apps for a Medical Resident
Some people prefer to have all their notes on one app, hence the need for a "second brain". However, I have found that each app has its particular strengths and weaknesses, and I believe I can work better if I tailor my use of the app according to its capabilities. In this article, I talk about the 9 best notetaking apps that I have tried and that have helped me study in residency.
