Cultural Traditions in Mixed Catholic Weddings: Uniting Hearts, Ears, and Bellies

    September 18, 2025 /

It may be more difficult planning a wedding that tries to respectfully showcase two cultures and yet ensured the solemnity of the nuptial rite in Mass and allowed for joyful frivolity at the reception. But it does make for an interesting celebration, and it did help my husband and I learn more about each other's heritage. Aside from representing both Polish and Filipino heritage through food and music, see which cultural traditions we decided to include for our special day.

Surviving a Difficult Rotation in Anatomical Pathology Residency

    April 25, 2025 /

When it comes to difficulty, a residency in anatomic pathology is considered to be on the easier end... But it isn't a walk in the park. How can one survive, and ideally thrive, in a difficult rotation in anatomical pathology residency? With these tips for surviving a difficult rotation in pathology, it is my hope that I can help you brace your shoulders, adjust your mindset, dismiss errant traits in attendings and the humdrum of scutwork as mere distractions, so that you can keep your eye on the prize: learning as much as you can and becoming the best pathologist you can be.

Teaching Tagalog to Your Kids While Living in Another Country

    January 8, 2024 /

I firmly believe that passing on the Tagalog language (both the vernacular and the more poetic written), literature, history, and culture is very important. If you are like me and are also committed to teaching your child(ren) your native language, and it is especially more difficult when living in another country, here are other tips (from my experience).

My Thriller Reads This Summer of 2023

    July 26, 2023 /

Thriller novels (and movies) have always been my go-to genre. From Sherlock Holmes and the manga (and anime) Detective Conan when I was a kid, to a wider variety of authors today, I have always enjoyed great mysteries. In fact, I feel like it takes so much more to surprise me, as I tend to anticipate plot twists so often, I have sometimes found reading fiction to be boring. The only reason I have gone back to fiction was because I have learned to enjoy the other components of a novel: for example, the literary style and characterization. Here is a quick rundown of some of the books I've read…

Easy Yummy Caldereta for Busy People

    April 12, 2023 /

Caldereta is a Filipino stew, made with your choice of meat (I use beef here) and commonly with carrots, potatoes, and peas (I also add mushrooms). This version is an easy way to make it, as I simply use the ever reliable Mama Sita's caldereta mix, which should be available in your local Asian grocery.

New Undated Daily Planner with Weekly Overview – FREE

    March 29, 2023 /

When I simply have too many things to do and am overwhelmed, I tend to shut down and simply try to wing it from day to day. I barely check the monthly page of my planner for things I had scheduled and mapped out for that month. I don't even look at my weekly vertical layout, list of things to do, freezer inventory, or meal plan. I just let it be. This, however, resulted in me being less productive. Hence a new planner layout!

5 Notetaking Styles I Use (Photos Included)

    January 26, 2023 /

In this post, I will briefly talk about the notetaking styles I use and show examples. Note (ha, pun intended) that I am in medicine, specifically in pathology residency. We study materials that are heavy in text details (hello, molecular markers) but that are also picture-heavy (all those gross and microscopic images of disease entities!). The styles depend on the reference text, primarily, and the amount of time I have.
